Keyword: rheumatoid arthritis
Keyword: allergy
Keyword: hemoglobin
CAS registry number: 71-00-1
Citation of a publication: Reference: Acta Crystallogr.,Sect.B, 28 (1972) p2382 Authors: J.J. Madden, E.L. McGandy, N.C. Seeman, M.M. Harding, A. Hoy
IUPAC name: 2-Amino-3-(1H-imidazol-4-yl)-propionic acid
Layman's explanation: This aromatic amino acid can be obtained bodily through ingestion of diary products and meat. A major protein in which histidine is found is hemoglobin. Histidine is necessary for growth and repair of tissue, production of red and white blood cells, and preservation of myelin sheaths. Additionally, this nutrient has been known to remedy rheumatoid arthritis, as well as allergy problems and ulcers. Excess of this residue can cause stress, anxiety and other psychological problems, while a deficiency can cause poor hearing. Histamine, the compound released during an allergic reaction, is biosynthesized from histidine.
