Maltol is derived from the bark of trees, pine needles, chicory wood, oils and roasted malt; it may also be produced synthetically. It is a chemical food-flavoring agent used in the flavor enhancement of fruit and caramel-flavored confectioneries and beverages. It also has the other functions of preventing acidic and bitter tastes, removing the smell and irritation. Maltol is also be implemented in cigarettes, sensitized materials, anti-septic substances and cosmetics.
