Although the date of discovery is questionable it wasnt until 1811 that Sodalite was given its name, due to its high sodium content. Sodalite is a light to dark blue mineral and is often used as an ornamental stone. Varieties of sodalite that are not blue, tend to fade when exposed to visible light but restore their color after a couple weeks of being in complete darkness or when exposed to UV light. Sodalite is the only chlorine containing feldspathoid.
