Citation of a publication: Y.-Y.H.Chiu, W.N.Lipscomb (1975) J.Am.Chem.Soc.,97, 2525
Layman's explanation: Streptonigrin is an antitumor antibiotic metabolite that was first published by Rao and Cullen in 1960. It was cocrystallized from a liquid extract from Streptomyces flocculus. This antibiotic displays a broad spectrum of activity against cancers in the human body, and also behaves as a weak acid. Streptonigrin causes side effects such as desruption to the bone narrow, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and hair loss.
