Layman's explanation:	Chalcanthite is a blue or greenish blue mineral that exists only in arid regions due to its sensitivity to moisture. Exposure to water or moisture will cause a reaction and the specimen will dissolve. Its name comes from the Greek words chalkos meaning copper and anthos meaning flower. It was once used as a poison to remove plant growth from ponds and waterways. Other uses are to make copper sulfate solutions that found in chemistry labs and also as crystal specimens in classrooms or with collectors
