Layman's explanation:
Sodalite was given its name in 1811, by Thomson, due to its sodium content, although the date of discovery questionable. Sodalite is a light to dark blue mineral and is often used as an ornamental stone. Varieties of sodalite that are not blue, tend to fade when exposed to visible light but restore their color after a couple weeks of being in complete darkness or when exposed to UV light. Sodalite is the only chloride containing feldspathoid.
