Maltol is derived from the bark of trees, pine needles, chicory wood, oils and roasted malt; it may also be produced synthetically. It is a chemical food-flavoring agent used in the flavor enhancement of fruit and caramel-flavored confectionaries and beverages. Maltol also functions in preventing acidic and bitter tastes, and removing the smell and irritation. This chemical is also being implemented in cigarettes, sensitized materials, anti-septic substances and cosmetics.
