Layman's explanation:	Adenine is one of the two purine bases used in forming nucleotides of the nucleic acids DNA and RNA. In DNA, adenine pairs with thymine, whereas in RNA, it pairs with uracil. Adenine combines with the sugar ribose to form adenosine, which in turn can be linked with up to three phosphoric acid units, yielding adenine derivatives that perform important functions in cellular metabolism.
