Layman's explanation: H.M. Evans and L.S. Bishop discovered Vitamin E in 1922 as a food factor. This food factor was discovered to be a substance essential for rat pregnancy. The deficiency of this food factor was found to be the cause of fetal death of baby rats during pregnancy. Therefore in 1924, this food factor was given the substance name Vitamin E, which was then given a new substance name of Tocopherol. Vitamin E works by reducing the level of oxidized LDL and reducing the disturbances of circulation of the blood as it protects the blood vessels in the body. Vitamin E can also be used in cosmetics for postponement of skin decay.
