Layman's explanation: Alanine is a non-essential amino acid whose main function seems to be the metabolism of tryptophan and pyridoxine. Alanine is located in prostate fluid, and may play an important role in prostate health. Good sources of alanine are meat, poultry, eggs, dairy products, and fish. High levels of alanine along with low levels of tyrosine and phenylalanine have been associated with the Epstein-Barr virus and chronic fatigue syndrome. Low levels have been found in patients with hypoglycemia, diabetes, and alcohol induced hepatitis.
