Dactylallene is a bromoallene isolated from the digestive gland of the mollusk Aplysia dactylomela, found off the coast of the Canary Islands of Spain in 1993. The pale yellow bromoallene, can be found throughout the Atlantic Ocean. This marine molecule is similar to a compound isolated from the red alga Laurencia obtusa, a dietary supplement of the mollusk. Dactylallene is very toxic to the mosquito fish and has been found to deter the gold fish Carassius auratus, giving it a defensive role against predators.
