Dolomite

Dolomite is named after the French mineralogist Deodat de Dolomieu.

Chemical Formula: CaMgO6
Other names: Calcium magnesium carbonate
Layman's explanation: Dolomite is a common rock-forming mineral found worldwide, but is most commonly associated with limestone quarries such as the ones found in the Midwestern United States. This association with limestone is because limestone and dolomite are very similar chemically, the only difference being that dolomite contains magnesium. Other places dolomite can be found are Ontario, Canada; Switzerland; Pamplona, Spain and in Mexico. Dolomite has very little practical use other than as an additive of concrete mixes.
Keywords: concrete, magnesium source
