Acetylene

Acetylene is an odorless, colorless gas.

Chemical Formula: C2H2
Layman's explanation: Acetylene is an odorless, colorless gas that was discovered in England by E. Davy. This gas is made from limestone and coal or from coal and hydrogen gas. The combustion of this acetylene and pure oxygen produces the hottest flame temperature possible of 3300 oC. As a result, it is used as a fuel in welding and cutting of metals. In a controlled setting acetylene can be used as an anesthetic, however, overexposure is hazardous.
