Copiapite

Copiapite is a hydrous sulfate.

Chemical Formula: Fe_4.69O₄₆S₆H₄₂

Other names: Copiapite ferrian

Layman's explanation: Copiapite was discovered in 1833 in Copiapo, Chile, hence the mineral?s name. Many countries contain this mineral, namely Chile, Australia and Canada. Copiapite forms when iron sulfide deposits oxidize. This sulfate mineral is yellow, orange or greenish-yellow in color, non-radioactive, non-fluorescence, dissolves in water, and tastes metallic.
