Cumene Hydroperoxide

Cumene hydroperoxide is thermally unstable.

Chemical Formula: C9H12O2
Other names: 1-methyl-1-phenylethylhydroperoxide
Layman's explanation: Cumene hydroperoxide is a colorless to pale yellow liquid synthesized from a solution of cumene, a compound often used as polymerization catalyst. Cumene hydroperoxide has a sharp odor and is quite combustible when in the presence of oxidizable substances. The compound decomposes exothermally at temperatures greater than 50 degrees Celsuis.
Keywords: polymerization inhibitor
