Pregnenolone

Pregnenolone is considered to be the precursor to all steroidal hormones.

Chemical Formula: C21H32O2
Other names: 3-Beta-hyroxpregn-5-en-20-one
Layman's explanation: Pregnenolone is the precursor to all human steroidal hormones such as progesterone, testosterone and estrogen. This corticosteroid was studied in the 1940's for its useful properties, but was set aside due to the discovery of cortisol and its derivatives. However, pregnalone has been described to help improve memory, energy levels, and vision, and it has also been used to treat hot flashes and arthritis. More research is required to fully understand the physiological properties of pregnenolone.
Keywords: hormone, testosterone, estrogen, arthritis
