Carbon

Diamond is a form of the element carbon.

Layman's explanation: Diamond was discovered in India and in the year 1670 in Brazil. It has an arrangement of face-centered cubic. Diamond is the hardest material on the earth, has a very high refractive index, and is a good electrical insulator. One of its main applications is as a gemstone for jewelry. Another use is to make cutting materials like phonograph needles and surgical knives.
