Layman's explanation: Benzothiazole is a sulfur containing bicyclic heteroaromatic chemical containing suflur and nitrogen. It is a liquid at room temperature with an unpleasant odor. This chemical can be prepared from the reaction of N,N-dimethylaniline and sulfur. Despite its unpleasant odor, the chemical has been used as a food additive for flavor and for its anti-microbial activity. Derivatives of benzothiazole have been shown to have anti-cancer and anti-dementia activity, and have been used to treat multiple sclerosis and Lou Gehrig's disease, to name a few.
