Manzamine AManzamine A hydrochloride is an antitumor alkaloid found within a sponge.
Chemical Formula:
C36H45N4O11+
Layman's explanation:
Manzamine A was first revealed when scientists were trying
to find antitumor activity in marine organisms. It was found that an extract
from a sponge did in fact inhibit the growth of P388 mouse leukemia cells.
Purification of this extract lead to the finding of a new alkaloid, manzamine A
hydrochloride. The molecular formula for this molecule is C36H44N4O, where each
of the 36 carbons is different. Seventeen of the carbon atoms within manzamine
A hydrochloride are sp2 hybridized, while the other 19 carbons have sp3
hybridization.
