Layman's explanation: Chlorodifluoromethane is a colorless and almost odorless gas. It may be a liquid under very cold conditions. It is used in air conditioning as an aerosol propellant, and as a low temperature solvent. It is also used as a refrigerant in food display cases, icemakers, home freezers and heat pumps. Chlorodifluoromethane can have toxic effects when it is breathed. The compound can also irritate the nose, throat and lungs causing tightness in the chest and trouble breathing. Chlorodifluoromethane can cause headache, nausea, dizziness and weakness. Higher concentrations can cause sleepiness, tremors , loss of concentration, and even death. The liquid state of this compound can cause frostbite. High exposure may affect the heartbeat, causing irregular rhythms and skipped beats.
