Layman's explanation: Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that can be purified from mammalian testicular and spleen tissue (common sources are bovine and ovine testes), venom from bees and snakes, and many bacteria. The enzyme has a molecular weight of 55,000 daltons. The function of this enzyme is to catalyze the depolymerization of mucopolysaccharides, hyaluronic acid, and the chondroitin sulfates A and C. This enzyme is commonly used in medical practice to encourage intradermal drug absorption in patients and in increasing the efficiency of local anesthetics.
