Layman's explanation: Cyclopropenylidene was detected in interstellar shells and in laboratory. Cyclopropenylidene is a carbene, neutral divalent form of carbon (only two bonds to carbon) with two non-bonding electrons. Carbenes are in general highly reactive and in most cases they posses a short life-time. They play an important role as intermediates in organic synthesis. When bonded to a transition metal they are stable and have many applications in synthetic organic chemistry.
