Layman's explanation: Benzophenone is an artificial aromatic compound created from a Friedel-Crafts acylation. Benzophenone is often found as a solid crystalline structure and can be dangerous because it creates poisonous gas when it combusts. Benzophenone is used in perfumery, ultraviolet absorber for polymers, adhesive, coating and ink. Also, it is used as a chemical intermediate for the synthesis of antihistamines, hypnotics, biocide and insecticides.
