Empirical formula: TiO
Formula weight: 63.879 g/mole
Structural formula: TiO
CAS registry number: 12137-20-1
Common name: Titanium Oxide
Short description: Titanium Oxide is used as multi-layer coating for laser mirrors, beam splitters and heat reflecting mirrors.
IUPAC name: Titanium oxide
Determination procedure: Structure was calculated using an ab initio method (HF 3-21G*) using the software: Spartan'02, Wavefunction, Inc., Irvine, CA
Layman's explanation: Titanium monoxide is an odorless, golden solid generally used to make thin films. It has been proposed as an electrically conducting metallization for both microelectronics and layered piezoelectronics applications. Multi-layer coatings of TiO are used for laser mirrors, beam splitters, heat reflecting mirrors. When exposed to air, TiO oxidizes spontaneously to TiO2.
