Layman's explanation:
Aragonite is a mineral that was first found in Aragon, Spain, where its name originated. A common mineral found in many mines throughout the world, aragonite has a long needle-like structure that is very closely related to another calcium carbonate compound called calcite. It has many colors, which are all dull and mainly transparent with a very dull luster. One of the biggest common uses of this mineral is in freshwater aquariums. It is often polished and made into slabs similar to marble.
