Acetyl ketene is a clear and colorless liquid with a pungent odor. Heat is released upon the reaction of water and acetyl ketene. Vapors of acetyl ketene are heavier than air and will collect in low areas, which is dangerous because the compound is very flammable. Acetyl ketene is used in the manufacture of dyes, pharmaceuticals, for pigments and toners, food preservatives, and for insecticides and fungicides.
