Layman's explanation: Resveratrol is a derivative of stilbene that can be found in plants, in the skins of red grapes, berries, some pines, peanuts and others. It has antifungal properties. This compound is also marketed as nutritional supplement with anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging drug and other beneficial properties. Red wine may contain as much as 160 micrograms per fluid ounce. The good vascular health of people living in Southern France and eating a relatively fat-rich diet, the so-called “French Paradox,” is attributed to red wine (and resveratrol) consumption.
