Layman's explanation:
Benzothiazole is a sulfur containing bicyclic heteroaromatic chemical containing
suflur and nitrogen. It is a liquid at room temperature with an unpleasant odor.
This chemical can be prepared from the reaction of N,N-dimethylaniline and sulfur.
Despite its unpleasant odor, the chemical has been used as a food additive for
flavor and for its anti-microbial activity. Derivatives of benzothiazole have been
shown to have anti-cancer and anti-dementia activity, and have been used to treat
multiple sclerosis and Lou Gehrig's disease, to name a few.
