Octanitrocubane is believed to be one of the worlds most energetic substances known.
Layman's explanation:
Octanitrocubane was first synthesized by Philip Eaton and his research assistant Mao Xi Zhang in the new millenium. Octanitrocubane was derived from nitrogen atoms connecting two oxygen atoms that are connected to cubane carbons. Octanitrocubane is believed to be potentially the world s powerful non-nuclear explosive . Since octanitrocubane is fairly new and expensive to make, it has not yet been used in other explosives. The military is interested in octanitrocubane because it is said to be more powerful than HMX. Due to its shock insensitivity, Octanitrocubane can be hit with a hammer and nothing will happen, says Philip Eaton.
