Arkelite

Arkelite is the main component of cubic zirconium.

Chemical Formula: ZrO_2.12

Other names: Zirconium oxide

Layman's explanation: MH Klaproth, a German chemist, discovered Arkelite in 1789 after reacting zircon stones with alkali to produce a new oxide. Arkelite, also called Zirconium oxide, has the lowest thermal conductivity of all ceramic materials and therefore is used as high temperature refractory material, and for cutting blades. Zirconium oxide is also the main component in cubic zirconium. Zirconium oxide is found in a variety of environments, including kimberlite, syenite and gabbro.
