Isopropanol

Isopropanol is the main component in rubbing alcohol.

Chemical Formula: C3H8O
Layman's explanation: Isopropanol is a secondary alcohol that is synthesized commercially by the hydrolyzation of the sulfate ester formed by reaction of propylene gas and sulfuric acid. Highly affordable, isopropanol has often been used as a substitute for ethanol. Currently, the secondary alcohol is one of the main components in rubbing alcohol. Physical properties of the molecule are colorlessness, miscibility with water, and a boiling point of 82.3 degrees Celcius. Poisoning of this compound can cause the following side effects: abdominal pain, low blood pressure, dizziness, coma, slurred speech, increase or decrease in urine output, etc.
Keywords: secondary alcohol, rubbing alcohol
