Layman's explanation:Pentacene is a large size aromatic hydrocarbon. Reactively, it behaves like a conjugated alkene due to having a single aromatic sextet. Despite its environmental effects as a pollutant, pentacene is quite useful as an organic thin film transistor. Some films are large enough to contain a complete plastic electronics device. Pentacene forms films effectively due to its ability to stack in many different ways. Harmful effects of pentacene can occur if the compound is inhaled, ingested, or in contact with the skin. It may be potentially carcinogenic.
