Borazine

Borazine, the inorganic analog of benzene, is a valuable precursor to hexagonal and cubic boron-nitride.

Layman's explanation: Borazine(B3N3H6) as an inorganic analogue of benzene was synthesized by reaction of cheap raw materials, and by using simple glass reaction. Mixed multiple ring borazine-type precursors have been generated from the reaction of diborane with acetonitrile. Inclusion of the borazines inhibits oxidation of both pitch-based cokes but the blends have limited potential as oriented fiber precursors, since the products are either isotropic or phase-separated. Borazine is a flammable liquid which is decomposed by water, light, heat, alcohols and acids. One principal motivation in creating boron analogues of amino acids, nucleic acids and other important biomolecules was for possible use in BNCT (for cancer treatment). The attractiveness of boron-10 for neutron capture therapy also lies in the rich diversity of boron chemistry, permitting the design of numerous species for selective targeting to tumor cells.
