Hexane is a colorless, volatile liquid with a mild, gasoline-like odor.

Chemical Formula: C6H14
Layman's explanation: Hexane is a compound that has been around since the mid 1800s, when it was isolated and purified. It was first used as a solvent in the early 20th century. It is a linear six-carbon alkane, is not water-soluble and is less dense than water. Commercial hexane is a mixture of its numerous chemical forms, including iso-hexane and neo-hexane. The different forms of Hexane are common ingredients in gasoline. Hexane is a petroleum distillate used as a solvent in cleaners, degreasers, glues, spray paints, paint thinners, coatings, silicones, and greases.
