Vanadinite

Chemical Formula: ClO₁₂Pb₅V₃

Other names: Pentalead tris(vanadate) chloride

Layman's explanation: Vanadinite is a member of the apatite group with an isomorphous hexagonal symmetry. Generally, vanadinite has a bright red to orange color and a less commonly color is brown or yellow, although some crystals may also be multicolored. Vanadinite's classic crystal habit is short hexagonal prisms terminated by a pinacoid , or flat basal face. Its distinctive color makes it very popular among mineral collectors. It is an important ore of vanadium, and a minor ore of lead. This mineral can be found in Arizona, Mexico, and South Africa.
