Hydrogen Iodide is a colorless, nonflammable, and corrosive gas with a penetrating and suffocating odor. Hydrogen Iodide is highly toxic, and mostly attacks mucous membranes and eyes. It is used primarily in the manufacture of hydriodic acid and in the preparation of organic and inorganic iodide compounds. It is also used as a reducing agent in chemical synthesis, in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, and as a disinfectant.
