Estrone

Estrone is one of the estrogens - a group of female sex hormones.

Chemical Formula: C18H22O2
Other names: Oestrin, Oestrone, 3(beta)-Hydroxyestra-1,3,5(10)-trien-17-one
Layman's explanation: Estrone is a sex hormone with the same activity as estradiol, but with less potency. The difference in activity is due to the substitution of one of the hydroxy groups with a keto group. This hormone is primarily used to treat estrogen deficiency.
Keywords: estradiol, estrogen deficiency, hormone
