Glycerin

Glycerin is an alternative sweetener.

Other names: Glycerol, Propane-1,2,3-triol
Layman's explanation: Glycerine is a byproduct during the manufacture of soap and biodiesel. Its name comes from the Greek word “glycys,” which means sweet, and the compound is very sweet and nontoxic. Glycerine is used as a food preservative and a non-sugar sweetener. It also acts as humectant, a substance that attracts moisture, in lotions, creams, handmade soaps and other personal care products.
