Cyanoacrylate

Cyanoacrylate is part of super glue.

Other names: Methyl alpha-cyanoacrylate, Methyl-2-cyanoacrylate, 2-Propenoic acid-2-cyano-methyl ester

Layman's explanation: Cyanoacrylate is a colorless liquid with a characteristic odor that polymerizes very rapidly, particularly in the presence of moisture. It is used as fast glue and sets often in less than a minute. Besides household uses it is employed in medical applications (Dermabond and Traumaseal) for suturfree surgery. It is also used in forensic tool to visualize fingerprints using cyanoacrylate fumes. The compound was first reported by researchers at Eastman Kodak during the 1930’s and 40’s. It was patented in 1956 and later marketed as EASTMAN 910.
