Carnallite

Carnallite is a white or reddish mineral used as a fertilizer and as a source of potassium and magnesium.

Chemical Formula: H₁₂Cl₃KMgO₆

Other names: Potassium magnesium chloride hexahydrate

Layman's explanation: Carnallite is a milky-white or reddish mineral consisting of hydrous chlorides of potassium and magnesium, which crystallizes in the orthorhombic system and occurs in deliquescent masses. It forms in marine evaporite deposits where sea water has been concentrated and exposed to prolonged evaporation. Carnallite is used as a fertilizer and as a source of potassium and magnesium. Carnallite is found in mines in Russsia, Germany, Iran, China and United States particularly Utah, Texas and Colorado.
