Layman's explanation: Garnet has been used in gemstones for many thousands of years. The Koran states that the fourth heaven is composed of carbuncle, which is another name given to the beautiful gem. Garnet is a very abundant gem and can easily be found in many places around the world. Application: Garnet is a silicate mineral and is the birthstone of January. It is also used for many abrasive purposes, and is the symbolic gemstone for the 18th wedding anniversary.
