Layman's explanation: Mescaline was officially discovered in 1897 by Dr. Heffer at the University of Berlin as the active hallucinogenic drug from the peyote cactus. Its use dates back to pre-Columbian times as an integral part in certain Native American religions. The drug produces vivid visual and psychological perceptions.
