BicyclomycinBicyclomycin is an antibacterial drug that acts as an inhibitor of the Rho transcription terminator factor.
Chemical Formula:
C12H18N2O7
Layman's explanation:
Bicyclomycin represents a unique class of antibiotics, discovered in 1972. It is obtained by the fermentation of Streptomyces sapporonensis. In the crystalline form bicyclomycin is observed to be rhombic or monoclinic, depending on the solvent used. This antibiotic kills bacteria by inhibiting the Rho transcription terminator factor, halting ribonucleic acid (RNA) synthesis. It is used to treat diarrhea in humans and non-specific diarrhea in animals, and is sold under the trade name of Bicozamycin or Bicoland.
