Showdomycin was first isolated from Steptomyces showdoensis by Nishimura in the early 1960's.
This antibiotic has antibacterial and antitumor activitities. Showdomycin also shows enzyme inhibitory
abilities. As an antitumor, it prevents the growth of L1210 leukemia, HeLa cells, and Ehrlich ascites
tumor cells. Their is a possiblity that showdomycin is also a sulfhydryl reagent. A sulfhydryl reagent is
a substance that detects or measure a specific sulfhydryl group.
